Arthur Champ Jr.

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Arthur Champ Jr., 81, who passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Note Dame Catholic Church from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday.
A rosary will be prayed at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Rev. Michael Sucharski, SVD, will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Steanté Champ Allen and Brittany Champ. Gift Bearers will be Jordan Elizabeth Champ and Steven Champ Jr.
Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Mr. Champ was a member of many different organizations including the founder and former president of the Golden Keys Social and Civic Club, Friendly Neighbors Social and Civic Rights Club, Knights of Peter Claver, Council on Aging, and ARC of Louisiana. He honorably served the people of St. Martinville during three terms as a City Councilman. Arthur was instrumental in helping to coordinate the installation of the Dr. Martin Luther King Street sign in St. Martinville and actively took a part in many different Civil Rights movements throughout the community. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed and cherished moments spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving sons, Arthur Champ III and wife Marilyn, and Steven Champ Sr. and wife Laura; sister, Lorita Champ; and his grandchildren, Annie M. Wade, Charles W. Wade Jr., Brittany Champ, Jordan Elizabeth Champ, Steanté Allen and spouse Brandon, and Steven Champ Jr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae Charles Champ; parents, Arthur Sr. and Mary Mitchell Champ; and brother, Leroy Champ.
Pallbearers will be Steven Champ Jr., Charles Wade Jr., Dumas Charles and Ronald Charles.
Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Champ III, Steven Champ Sr., Martin Lee Sr., Calvin Malveaux, Jack Robinson, Eddie Champ, Kevin Champ, Wesley Lewis and Ronald Laxey.
