Born in a rural community in south-central Louisiana on January 22, 1929, Anna Mae Devillier Knott grew up in a Cajun French speaking family, the middle daughter of Hector and Noeda Devillier.
Anna Mae grew up to marry Alibie “Bull” Knott and raised four children. After the sudden death of her husband left her widowed for the next 35 years, she found contentment in hard work and caring for others. Her two greatest passions were cooking and cleaning. When not engaged in these activities, she was of great help to those in her neighborhood, working in the primary school cafeteria, cleaning homes, or working in various local food service businesses.
At retirement, she moved from her hometown of Cecilia to Iowa and continued assisting in the care of children and the elderly until her death on January 22, 2019, her 90th birthday.
She is survived by her son, Bobby James Knott and wife Danielle of Seguin, Texas; daughters, Dolores Knott Marks of Lafayette, Audrey Knott Guerrero and husband Jason of Houma, and Adeline Knott Miller and husband Prentiss of Iowa; grandchildren, Candace Marks Mahoney and spouse Chris of Lafayette, Michelle Guidry Wich and spouse Michael of Destrahan, and Hunter James Knott of Lafayette; and great-grandchildren, Peyton Michael Wich, Landon Paul Wich and Cohen Christopher Mahoney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alibie “Bull” Knott; parents, Hector and Noeda Bergeron Devillier; sisters, Roma Lanclos and Beatrice Stelly; brothers, Leland “Boy” Devillier and Lawrence “Pete” Devillier; and son-in-law, Charles Allen Marks.
Pallbearers were Bobby James Knott, Hunter James Knott, Bryan Artigue, Peyton Michael Wich, Jason Guerrero and Lenny Devillier.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Wich and Chris Mahoney.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Cecilia was in charge of arrangements.
