Blanchard contract approved by board

School Board members gave unanimous approval to the employment contract for Superintendent Allen Blanchard Jr. during a brief meeting last Wednesday, April 3.
The contract runs from March 13, 2019 through June 30, 2021 and includes a base salary of $138,500.
Board member Mark Hebert of Dist. 10 questioned Blanchard regarding the salary amount, asking Blanchard if he was satisfied.

Pepper Festival moving to city’s Magnolia Park

The 2019 Kiwanis Pepper festival will he held in a different month and at a different location than in recent years.
Kiwanis President Brad Horton received approval at the April 1 city council meeting to hold the event, now scheduled for Oct. 26, at Magnolia Park instead of the festival grounds. Horton said the large pavilion at the park will provide dry space in case of rain and much more parking space for visitors.

Chief administrator resigns

The short, stressful tenure of Shedrick Berard as St. Martinville’s chief administrative officer (CAO) came to an end at a special council meeting last Thursday afternoon. Berard resigned the post and will now return to his previous position as the city’s safety officer and building and zoning director.

PARADE HONORS

Members of the Breaux Bridge High School basketball team, which brought the school its very first LHSAA basketball championship by winning the Class 4A title last month, were honored with a parade down Main Street on Sunday afternoon. I-10/LA 328 ramp to be closed nightly

The LA328/Anse Broussard Hwy/Rees St. westbound on-ramp will be closed nightly beginning Wednesday, April 3, at 8 p.m. until Saturday, April 6, at 6 a.m., weather permitting.
This closure is necessary for the opening of the new on-ramp on LA 328.
The right lane on I-10 westbound (LA 328 off-ramp to Bayou Teche), will also be closed nightly during the same period.
This closure is necessary for the opening of the new on-ramp on LA 328.
The detour route for LA 328 northbound and southbound traffic is I-10 eastbound to LA 347/Grand Point Hwy to I-10 westbound.
