Welcome news for Village rec

St. Martinville – The Village of Parks will soon have the funds to make much-needed upgrades to Cecile Rousseau Poché Memorial Park.

St. Martin Parish President Guy Cormier and parish council members Neil Thobodeaux and Jason Willis brought the good news to the June 13 Village council meeting. Parks will receive $350,000 from the recent parish bond issue. Five million of the $25 million bond approved by voters last December is earmarked for recreation upgrades.

Cormier told the council that several factors contributed to that funding level, which is considerably higher than anticipated. A formula was used that takes into account the number of users of the facility, not just by Village residents, but also residents outside city limits. Also, much weight was given to actual “needs” for upgrades, as opposed to “wants.”
