Breaux Bridge's 'Trash Bash & Boogie'

Volunteers at Parc des Ponts de Pont Breaux hustled trash from participating boats in Bayou Teche to a pile to be picked up by St. Martin Parish Government at last Saturday’s Trash Bash & Boogie put on by The TECHE Project.

Meanwhile other volunteers grilled hamburgers for the 60-some-odd people who turned out to help clean up Bayou Teche. Event organizer Dane Thibodeaux said nearly a ton, 1,920 pounds, of trash was pulled from the bayou, including a port-a-potty, a refrigerator, five chairs, three auto tires, and four 50-gallon barrels and 42 bags of miscellaneous trash.

The Pine Leaf Boys entertained the crowd later for free.

The effort to clean up the bayou is in preparation for the Tour du Teche races Oct. 4-6.
