Bayou cleanup produces 'mountain' of trash
ARNAUDVILLE – Organizers of last Saturday's trash sweep on Bayou Teche pronounced it a great success.
"It was a great day!" said Betty Roy. "Started out a bit chilly but warmed up. There is a mountain of garbage near the boat ramp. It will be picked up ASAP!"
The newly formed group under the wing of the Arnaudville Chamber of Commerce, Cleanup La Jonction. will meet this Saturday, April 4, at 9 a.m. at Cypress City Antiques on Highway 93 (coming into Arnaudville from Grand Coteau) to do a sweep along an area roadside.
The next Bayou Teche cleanup will be from Arnaudville heading north toward Port Barre, Roy said.
"We need more boats and more hands." she said. "Please pass the word."
Participating in last Saturday's effort were Chris Albert, Camille Blanchard and trusties from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office, Brandon Benoit, Lance Benoit, Richard and Anya Burgess, Blake Couvillon, Danny and Myra Fabacher, Adam Fisher, Danny Frazier, Kristen Kordecki from Acadiana R&DC, Debbie LaGrange, George and Rita Marks at NuNu's (which chipped in a great gumbo), Marie Orgeron, Jacques Privat with Keep St. Martin Beautiful, Mike Reed, DEQ, Rod Roy.
