My ten year old cub scout grandson, Noah, is looking for chores to do around his neighborhood, home and my house. He came by Sunday and planted beets and carrots seeds in our new garden. He worked around the yard doing his scout’s honor to help others, and that he’ll report to his Scout Master. He is making memories!
I told him little stories of when I was ten, and compared them to his life. He can’t imagine walking to school or riding a wagon, led by mules, to visit family, or three sisters sleeping in one bed!
Priss Gonsuron asks who remembers;
“coquin comme boulin” and “diabless” and “bouche comme une barbue?”
I gotta to go visit her and Louella Melancon.
See y’all at the next big election Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Say bonjour to Chelse Noel, a Rees Street Market cashier, and she’ll talk French with you. She attended French emersion and learned it well and speaks it with me.
Don’t forget the Atchafalaya Basin Festival and Church Fundraiser will be happening Nov. 13 at the Henry Guidry Park in Henderson, and will be lots of fun as usual.
This year, at the park, the Book Fairy Learning Center in Henderson will have many children’s books to give away for free. There will be a table set up and kids can go by there and select the books of their choice. Bring a bag to carry your free books. It’ll be fun!
The Senior Citizen Day tes amusant Samedi passe. The well deserved Catahoula Civic Award for 2010 was given to Willis Boudreaux. His plaque read, “In Recognition of Outstanding Contributions to our Community, Outstanding Citizen, Catahoula, Louisiana.”
Otis Courville received the Catahoula Memorial Award. The plaque was presented to his family.
C’est tes un bonne visite avec Sheriff Ronny Theriot. Even though he has a busy schedule, his office is only a phone call away.
He took time out to share with his people. he did his civic duty and even helped judge a dancing contest of proud contestants.
We also met with Jeff Landry. He walked around the tables of people shaking hands like he knew everyone. His pictures are deceiving; he looks much younger in person. He was happy to hear that.
Summer ended, Thanksgiving is drawing near and black Friday shopping is approaching.
I never did take part in that shopping hysteria, not because I was broke, but because I did not want to be broke when it was all over.
I gotta keep some dollars for coffee and bread.
All the talking I did about Raymond Melancon last week, and I neglected to say thank you to him for my garden. My grandsons, Chris and Justin, put up a fence, about two feet high and about one hundred feet around to keep the armadillos and rabbits out.
I hope the dear that cross my yard at night have good eyesight, the fence is green and hard to see. I can almost see the disaster – they’d get all tangled up in the wire.
Pennie Boudreaux Babin was saying at our table Saturday that she went for blood work, and the results were good, so she was so happy she treated herself to a shopping spree at JC Penny’s. You go girl!
Time for fall planting. Nurseries are stocking up for your winter plants. I picked up potting soil at Viv Brasseaux’s nursery this week. The new flowers there looked good enough to toss into a salad.
Amètie à tout, Cousine Hélène 337-228-1714.
