Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery.
Monsignor Douglas Courville conducted the services.
Mrs. Ruby worked for the State of Louisiana caring for the elderly and was admired for the compassion she offered to those she cared for during her tenure with the state. She also worked at Randall’s Grocery Store and Fournet’s Drug Store for many years. She was the proprietress of the Evangeline Café, where she continued to express her love of people through her cooking and good company. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and those she helped nurture back to good health.
Survivors include her son, Louis “Buster” Bergeron Jr. and his wife Connie of St. Martinville; her daughter, Janice Broussard and her husband Kenneth of Destrehan; two sisters, Aimee Castille of St. Martinville and Laura Belanger of New Iberia; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents, Dorsey and Laura Boudreaux Borel; her son, Anthony “Tony” Bergeron; a grandson, Blake Matthew Broussard; three brothers, Evrard, Stanley and Louis Borel; and three sisters, Mabel Dore, Martha Theriot and Aurelia Guidry.
A rosary was recited at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
