Internment followed at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery.
She lived most of her live in Houston, Texas, where she was employed by Texas Southern University for 25 years.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Alexander; her daughter, Carolyn Haywood of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Veronica Simon of Lafayette and Ida Angelle of Orange, Texas; and brother, Joseph Charles of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Georgia Charles, Hilda Alexander, Theresa Broussard, Mary Rubin and Yola Williams; and brothers, Alton, Horace, Nelson and Walter Charles.
Pellerin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
