Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery.
Msgr. J. Douglas Courville officiated at the Funeral Mass. Gift Bearers were Jaci and Chelsy Chataignier.
Sidney enjoyed doing mechanic work and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his sons, John Alfred Barras and his wife Deanna of Lafayette, Roland Joseph Barras and Kurt Barras and his wife Pat all of New Iberia; his daughter, Claire Chataignier of New Iberia; his sister, Georgie Laviolette; his daughter-in-law, Cynthia Barras of St. Martinville; 16 grandchildren, Blake and Paige Barras, Jaci and Chelsy Chataignier, Raven and Rachelle Barras, Royd and Randy Menard, Sandy Barras, Angella Britten, Cheree Bearb, Jason Barras, Andrea Wagespack, Amanda and Joe Barras, and Misty Derouen; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Courville Barras; three sons, Kim, Wayne and Glenn Barras; his parents, Robert and Amanda Boudreaux Barras; and his brother, Ames Barras.
A rosary was recited at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Pallbearers were Kurt, John and Jason Barras, Blake Barras, Todd Bearb and Jonathan Britten.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy and Royd Menard.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
