
Breaux Bridge – Denise Fergerson, Marguerite Lormand and Anna Barton were the guest speakers at the St. Martin Volunteers for Family and Community (SMVFC) meeting.
They discussed MedSource Home Health Care. MedSource believes that comprehensive health care must be available, accessible, and coordinated with other services so that each person receives the best care possible in the most cost-effective manner.
MedSource is the industry leader in home telemonitoring.
They discussed the following services: skilled nursing care, physical, occupational, and speech therapies, social service, dietetic service and home health aide services. They also provide pulmonary rehabilitation, balance training and fall prevention and a low vision rehabilitation program.
In addition, a large portion of the meeting was devoted to the discussion of Type 2 Diabetes. They discussed the signs, causes, and managing of Type 2 Diabetes. Time was allotted to the discussion of the treatment program.
This involves a meal plan, an exercise plan and medication, if necessary.
Mavis Frugé of the Arnaudville group was recognized as the “Woman of the Year” for St. Landry Parish. She gave a report on the one-day educational tour to Rayne. This will be held on Thursday, April 22.
The group will leave at 8:30 at the Ag Extension Building.
Details will be given at the April meeting; 45 people are registered to attend.
Mini-demos were given on scarves and paper containers.
Reports were given on International Day, AARP meeting, Extra Mile and the upcoming Expo.

The next meeting will be held at the Ag Center at 1:30 on Tuesday, April 13. Speakers will be Vicci Gillet and Delores Blair, breast cancer survivors – Cajun Invasion.
