Lafayette – The Cecilia High track and field team scored an impressive victory at the Oil City Relays held at Lafayette High last Friday, topping a field of 11 area schools that included New Iberia, Lafayette, St. Thomas More, Captain Shreve, Acadiana, Comeaux and Carencro of Class 5A, as well as District 6-4A rivals Breaux Bridge and Teurlings Catholic.

The Bulldogs amassed 102 points to finish well ahead of second place New Iberia which had 85.

Breaux Bridge finished in seventh place with 39 points.

Cecilia got a bunch of points from sprinter Montrel Carter who picked up blue ribbons in the 200-meter dash, and the 4X100 and 4X200 relays. The speedster also finished second in the 100.

William LeBlanc accounted for Cecilia’s other individual gold medal, winning the high jump at 6-6.

The Bulldogs also got big points with second place finishes in the shot put (Jeremy Doucette) and javelin (Brad Norris) and thirds in the 100, 110 hurdles, long jump and 4X400 relay.

Breaux Bridge’s only first place came in the 400-meter dash, which Kavahra Holmes won with a time of 40.18.



In the girls side of the competition, Cecilia’s Lady Bulldogs finished 4th behind Lafayette, Carencro and New Iberia with 49 points.

Natasha Wiltz carried the load for Cecilia, winning the triple jump with a leap of 36-4 and placing second in both the high jump and long jump.

Monique Blanchard contributed a second place finish in the shot put and Cecilia’s 4X200 relay team earned a third place ribbon.
