St. Martinville – Voters in the mayor and City Council elections are swarming to the polls here. In just two and a half days, early voting in the municipal election here is nearly three times what it was during the whole six days of early voting in the 2006 election.

“Swarming” is a relative term, of course. According to the Registrar of Voters Office, 197 had voted as of midday Tuesday. In the 2006 election that put today’s incumbents in office, a total of only 72 voted early over six days.

This go round, early voting has expanded to seven days, starting last Saturday and ending this coming Saturday.
