After serving four years as a US Marine in the Pacific during World War II, Couvillion obtained his BA and BS from what is now UL-Lafayette and his master’s from LSU.
He coached at Opelousas High, Sunset High and Opelousas Catholic. In his first year at Opelousas High his boxing team won the state championship and one of his baseball teams at Sunset won the state title. He retired as principal of Cheery Street Academy in Opelousas.
Couvillion was active in a number of clubs and organizations and received the Sertoma Club’s Mankind Award. The South St. Landry Youth Baseball Park is named in his honor.
Survivors include his wife Rose.
