St. Martinville -- City Councilmen Mike Fuselier of District 1 and Craig Prosper of District 2 have been reelected by virtue of the fact they drew no opposition in the qualifying period ending Friday.

Mayor Thomas Nelson and the three others on the council will face opposition in the March 27 municipal elections.

Nelson is being opposed by Melinda "Mel" Mitchell.

In District 3, the traditional "swing" district between two predominately black districts and two that are predominately white, incumbent Dennis Paul Williams faces Dumas Charles.

Ronald Charles of District 4 is being contested by Judy "Gillette" Rochon.

And running against Arthur Champ in District 5 are Romanus "Ike" Robertson, the previous councilman to hold that seat, and newcomer Sandra "Sue Mel" Batiste.
