BREAUX BRIDGE – Outstanding principals and teachers from the district’s 16 public schools will be honored during today’s meeting of the St. Martin School Board, with the principal and teacher of the year to be introduced.
The presentation will kick off the monthly meeting of the school board set for 5 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Instructional Center, 111 Courville Street in Breaux Bridge.
School bus matters will also occupy the board members, as they are expected to award bids for video cameras and GPS systems to be installed in the parish’s school bus fleet and to partner with Vermilion Parish in the purchase of 10 new buses.
In addition to a number of routine items, today’s agenda includes:
•Approve recommendations on the assignment of bond issue projects to interested consultants.
•Executive (secret) session for employee tenure hearing.
•At the request of board members Floyd Knott and Richard Potier discuss the long term location and configuration of Breaux Bridge area schools and test scores at Breaux Bridge Elementary.
•At the request of board member Jimmy Blanchard consider using all years of experience, including rehires, in parish schools when applying a reduction in force.
•Consider payment of $5,000 to the 16th Judicial District Children and Youth Planning Board administered by District Attorney Phil Haney.
•Approve daily rate of pay for substitute bus drivers.
•Consider requests for waiver of sales tax penalty by Dell Financial Services LP and Gulfgate Construction LLC.
•Consider proclamations for Character Week (Oct. 18-24) and Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 26-30).
