Judging will be during the Sept. 12 150th Birthday Bridge Bash in downtown Breaux Bridge. There will be two divisions, one for men, and one for anyone wanting to craft an artificial beard.
For the men’s division, the decision will be made using ballots, based on levels of excellence in three categories: luster, grooming and difficulty.
Prizes in the men’s division are:
•First Place: Commemorative belt buckle
•Second Place: Professional beard grooming kit and accessories
•Third Place: Free haircut and trim at local barber shop
The criteria and prizes for the “open division” have yet to be announced, presumably on the theory that it takes longer to actually grow a beard than to manufacture one of feathers or what have you.
Josh Caffery, chairman of the beard contest for the Breaux Bridge 150 Committee, says other details will be forthcoming soon.
