New Iberia – Funeral services were held at 7 p.m on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel for Mitchell Jude Daspit, 40, who passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009, in Iberia Parish.

Rev. Kenneth Leleux officiated.

Born on July 31, 1968, Mitchell was an artist and a veteran of the Army National Guard, having served during Desert Storm. He enjoyed gardening, decorating, sewing, painting, reading, costume designing, and was a master jeweler.

Survivors include his wife, Amber Bowen Daspit of Lafayette; parents, Raymond “Ray” and Dorothy “Dot” Daspit of St. Martinville; daughters, Felicia Daspit George and husband Nicholas, Shelly Fatima Daspit, and Isabella Anna Alysia Daspit, all of Lafayette; son, Justus Ky Daspit of Rincon, Georgia; grandparents, Mitchell and Alta “Tou Tout” Broussard of Arnaudville; brother, D. Scott Daspit of New Iberia; sister, Nicole Daspit Latiolais of Breaux Bridge; and granddaughter, Ava Grace George.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Daspit, and a nephew, David Andrew Daspit.

Honorary pallbearers included D. Scott Daspit, Brady Bowen, Jon Bowen, Lloyd Broussard and Terry Cormier.
