CROWLEY – Acadia Parish 4-H members will be “Going for the Green” at the 2009 Achievement Day to be held at Crowley High School on May 2.

Achievement Day is a day of challenge in which 4-H’ers can showcase their skills and share with each other what they know. There are a variety of different activities to participate in during the day. There will be judging contests, a talent show, fashion review, awards, and a club song contest all going on throughout the day. Through these different activities the 4-H members will have the opportunity to make decisions, give reasons, build self-confidence and learn many other life skills.

The morning assembly will begin at 8:15. Four-H members from Acadia Parish will participate in numerous contests and activities. Then the day will conclude with the honoree dedication ceremony, an award ceremony and talent show that will begin at 1 p.m. Many special awards will be given to outstanding 4-H’ers and their clubs.

The 2009 Achievement Day Honoree is Mrs. Anne Marie Hebert. Mrs. Hebert brings the true meaning “going for the green” to heart. She has been involved in 4-H as long as she can remember. Mrs. Hebert was a member of the Egan Elementary 4-H Club and St. Francis Elementary Club as a youngster. Her fondest memory of 4-H was when she received a blue ribbon in the sewing contest at what was once called Short Course. According to Mrs. Hebert, “the 4-H pledge has been in my life for a long time. The 4-H pledge can help lead your everyday life.”

She has raised two children through the program and now has three grandchildren that are actively involved in the 4-H program. When Mrs. Hebert is not traveling across the parish and state taking her grandchildren to a 4-H event or to a school activity, she stays active by serving as a 4-H volunteer, judge and project helper. She is also a member of the Volunteers for Family and Community, and a Eucharistic minister.

When asked how she felt about receiving the honor to be the 2009 achievement day honoree she simply stated that “she was very pleased and surprised and she would like to thank Egan Elementary for nominating her to be the honoree.”

If Mrs. Hebert could sum up the whole 4-H experience, she would describe it as “4-H brings it (activities) back to the family. Family is always included when there is a 4-H event. It takes the family to work together to help the youth accomplish their goals and dreams.”

This year’s theme, “Going for the Green,” was created by Cameron Russell, a 4-H member from St. Michael Elementary.
