CROWLEY – The staff at Carmichael’s Cashway Pharmacy has much to celebrate.

Forty years ago, Ted and Judy Carmichael of Crowley began this retail pharmacy, which has continued to serve the Acadiana community.

Since then, the company has grown into one of the largest pharmacy and medical equipment providers in the state of Louisiana, and has even expanded to other states.

On April 22, 2008, the Carmichaels sold their company to Sun Link Health Systems Inc., an Atlanta based company that specializes in hospitals, nursing homes and home health agencies.

“We are extremely pleased with the change and have received good support, both from SunLink and from the new management here,” expressed Ted.

Despite the change in ownership, there have been little changes regarding staff personnel. Ted Carmichael continues to work for Carmichael’s as a consultant and all of the location managers and pharmacists that have helped to make the company what it is today, are still there.

Henry J. Helo, a local resident who began as a delivery driver for the company through college and has moved up through many positions, including human resources, IT and operations, was promoted to General Manager in August of 2008.

“I have worked for this company many years and feel that it is my home. I feel connected with our customers and know how important our services are to them. I will continue to make it my number one priority to make sure that they are treated with respect and the highest standard of care possible.”

Being accredited through the Joint Commission, the top healthcare accreditation company in the United States for over ten years, has continued to push us to be the best in our field and allowed us to bring much needed services to our community.”

Still with Carmichael’s are many of the pharmacists that many families in the area have grown to trust, such as Dean Bergeaux, Farrell Villejoin and Summer Helo.

“When you visit Carmichael’s, we still have the same familiar faces. Our main goal is service to our customers, while guaranteeing to meet or beat price match,” stated Bergeaux.

Along with the staff at Carmichael’s, Ted agrees that SunLink has brought much value and clinical knowledge to the company, and that having a company that specializes in hospitals has given them more knowledge about the industry it services, so patients’ needs can be met at a higher level.

Extra benefits that customers of Carmichael’s have and continue to receive as a result of the switch have been better costs on medical equipment and $4 generic prescriptions through technologies designed to bring fourth these benefits.

SunLink has also grown the company by adding employees, therefore making Carmichael’s one of the largest employers of Acadia Parish.

“Being able to retain and hire locally has benefitted the community by allowing people to work and live closer to their families, bringing better standards of living and allowing them to be there when their families are in need,” Helo said with a smile.

Stop by and visit with the friendly folks of Carmichael’s today.
