Mrs. Davidson is the Membership Chairman for the Vermilion American Legion Auxiliary Unit 29, and made the trip with her husband, Harold. Gloaria Callanah, unit president, and others were unable to make the trip because of the Auxiliary’s Cake Sale which was scheduled for Sunday of that same weekend. The group reported that the cake sale went well and the Auxiliary is grateful for the help they received from the members and the community. They would also like to thank everyone who donated their time an, most of all, to all those who bought the cakes.
At the Third District Spring Conference, Unit 29 turned in 20.7 pounds of tabs from soda cans. These tabs are turned in yearly at the Spring Conference and then sold and that money goes to the Children’s Cancer Fund. The group hopes to get the entire community involved in this very worthy project. The Auxiliary realizes how hard it is when a family member is struck with cancer, and how much harder it is when that person is a child. Tabs may be collected and turned in to any Auxiliary member.
On Sunday of the conference certificates and awards were handed out in the various categories. The very first award to be presented was the Third District Highest percentage of Membership in Department for 2008-2009. The Donor of the award was Barbara White, Department Vice President from Unit 271 in Kaplan. That award was presented to Unit 29 of Abbeville.
At the monthly meeting of the auxiliary, Marian presented the plaque to Gloria Callahan, Unit President, on behalf of the members of the unit. Thanks go out to all the members who paid their dues in a timely fashion and made this award possible.
Unit 29 of the American Legion Auxiliary meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month. The plaque will be on display at that time. The group has become more involved in the community and would welcome any participation. The group has new faces and new energy and is open to ideas on how they may serve the community, state and the nation.
