Coach April Brown’s Zachary Lady Broncos entered the Class 4A Playoffs with a goal of earning a win or two. Last Thursday Night in Zachary the visiting Bastrop Lady Rams had other ideas in mind as Bastrop beat Zachary 58-41 in the opening round of the 4A State Playoffs.

Two big runs by the Lady Rams allowed them to escape with a big road win over the Lady Broncos. The Lady Broncos got off to a pretty good start as they led 9-6 after the first period expired.

The Lady Rams stormed back by going on a 16-6 run in the second period to claim a 22-15 halftime lead over the home standing Lady Broncos. Both teams came out in the second half and got after each other in the third.

Down by seven points in the third the Lady Broncos and Lady Rams would each score 17 points in the third as Bastrop maintained their seven point lead as the teams entered the fourth period.

The Lady Rams then closed the game out by going on a 19-9 run and went on to win the game 58-41 over the Lady Broncos. Zachary’s best season in quite some time came to an end with a 22-14 overall record.

Tamira Sims led the Lady Broncos with 13 points while Bria Reed and Khloe Mims both scored 11 markers for Zachary. Wynettra Cooper added five points and Raven Snowden scored a point.

Zachary will be one of the better teams in District 6-4A and the state next season as all but one player will return to the Lady Broncos squad in 2010.
