Jim Bradshaw, whose writing has been a favorite of Acadiana newspaper readers for more than 40 years, will debut in The Teche News and other Louisiana State Newspapers properties on Sunday, Feb. 1.

It will deal with historical aspects of Acadiana.

Bradshaw, in addition to newspaper and magazine writing, is the author of three books dealing with the history and culture of Acadiana.

He created his first neighborhood newspaper when he was a 10-year-old growing up in Lake Charles, just about the time tales told to him by his grandfather and father began to kindle his fascination for the history and heritage of south Louisiana.

His family has roots in Acadiana dating from the 1700s and Acadian names in his family tree include Vincent, Babin, Landry and others.

Bradshaw majored in English and journalism and minored in history at USL, where he was editor of The Vermilion and received the Southwestern Award of Achievement for contributions to extra-curricular activities at the univeristy.

In 1998 he was named Outstanding Alumnus by USL’s Communications Department and he currently serves on the department’s Corporate Communications Council.

He has pursued his twin loves of journalism and history over the last four decades and has become a recognized expert on the region and people of south Louisiana, receiving local, regional, and national awards both for journalism and for history.
