We are sorry that our recent editorial on George Bush offended so many of our readers. While some of our readers agreed with the content of the editorial, the majority disagreed and voiced their displeasure.

Many of you who contacted us to voice your displeasure were respectful and polite and we appreciate that.

We believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, as we are entitled to ours. In this case our opinion was not popular with some of our readers and we respect that. We encourage our readers to voice their views and opinions by submitting letters to the editor which we publish on the editorial page.

Many of you disagreed with our decision to publish the editorial on the front page rather than on the editorial page. That was our mistake and we are sorry that it offended you. In the spirit of fair play we are publishing this apology on the front page, the same position of the original editorial.

The local staff of the Crowley Post-Signal is responsible for reporting news and events of the community without opinion or theory. While the local manager and staff have total autonomy and responsibility for managing the paper, most of the editorial content and the editorial page are reserved by LSN corporate. Most decisions to publish editorials and opinions are made by the editorial board of Louisiana State Newspapers.

We stand by our assessment of Mr. Bush’s presidency; however we now realize that we could have used a better choice of words in expressing our opinion. We respect the opinion of those who believe he was a great president and if history proves them right, we will happily acknowledge our mistake.
