Breaux Bridge – Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Emarite Gennevieve Barras Cormier, 82, who passed away on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at St. Agnes Healthcare & Rehab Center in Breaux Bridge.

Entombment followed at St. Bernard Mausoleum No. 1.

Mrs. Cormier was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed playing Bingo, Pokeno, traveling, cooking and baking; in fact, she was known as the “Cookie Master” at St. Agnes Nursing home for many years.

Father Ed Degeyter officiated at the funeral Mass. Assisting as Altar Servers were Michael Cormier and Michelle Guidry. Readers were Denise Cormier and Shelba Guidry. Gift bearers were Judy Broussard and Pricilla Melancon.

Survivors include one brother, Preston J. Barras of Port Arthur, Texas; one sister, Beatrice Stafford, of Swartz Creek, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Denis Joseph Cormier; her parents, Adam and Emilie Benoit Barras; and three sisters, Odette Chance, Lenora Angelle and Amay Gordon.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
