An early morning fire destroyed two Kentwood High School classrooms and left smoke and soot throughout the main building. The cause of the fire is undetermined but police and fire officials are investigating.

Inside the wrecked classrooms, walls were blackened with soot, and broken furniture and books sloshed in the standing water on the black floor.

School Superintendent Mark Kolwe announced Friday afternoon, Tangipahoa Parish School Board members have called a special meeting Monday, December 15 at 3:00 p.m. to assess the damage and discuss future plans for Kentwood High School.

The plan is for the school to open Monday with junior high students reporting Monday and Wednesday while high school students will report Tuesday and Thursday. Faculty and staff will report Monday and stay all week. Kentwood High School will be closed on Friday, December 19.
