Wildcats in Parish finals again

DELCAMBRE - Both No. 1 seeds, the Abbeville Wildcats and North Vermilion Lady Patriots, advanced to the finals of the Vermilion Parish tournament Wednesday.

No. 2 seed Kaplan Pirates and No. 7 seed Gueydan Honey Bears joined the No. 1 seeds in the last night’s finals. Both games were played after press time.

The Wildcats, who have won the tournament four years in a row, topped the Gueydan Bears 83-55. De’Anthony Carter paced the ‘Cats with 15 points. Tre’mone Williams added 11. Gabe Fluitt and Greg Verrett scored 20 and 16 points, respectively, for the Bears.

The Lady Patriots also moved to the title game courtesy of a 45-30 win over the Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles. Courtney Chargois led the way with 15 points. Brooke Romero chipped in 10 points. Brooke Broussard, Hannah Theriot and Hilary Theriot scored 10 points apiece for VC.

The No. 2 seed Kaplan Pirates joined Abbeville in the finals. The Pirates topped the Erath Bobcats 66-52. Grettney Roy led Kaplan with a game-high 25 points. Marc Constable added 18 for the Pirates. Chris Tyson also scored 18 points to lead Erath.

The Honey Bears, who defeated No. 2 seed Abbeville Monday, continued their Cinderella run after a 47-31 win over the Delcambre Lady Panthers. Whitney Woods paved the way for the Honey Bears with 21 points. Hillary Lounsberry and Shaley Woods each contributed seven points.
