A jury was picked this past week for the second-degree murder trial of Anna Alexander of Eunice, but her trial has again been delayed.

Following jury selection, Judge Donald Hebert set trial for Dec. 16 and Dec. 17.

But that will be rescheduled in the wake of his granting a defense motion for a continuance to allow a Sanity Commission evaluation of Mrs. Alexander.

The next trial date will most likely be in April, according to a judicial official.

If trial is held that month, it will be two years after Austin Alexander was shot to death in his driveway on April 21, 2007.

The St. Landry Parish District Attorney’s Office alleges that Anna Alexander shot her husband once with a .380 pistol.

According to testimony at her bail hearing, she then went back into their house and called the police.

Testimony at the same hearing alleged that the Alexanders had been arguing a short while before the shooting.

When they came down from an upstairs room in which they were arguing, a witness testified, the husband said he would kill his wife with a shovel if she didn’t drop the matter.

The argument’s subject was not disclosed.
