It’s fairly common for people in Acadiana to go out to eat with friends and family. There is certainly no shortage of places to go to get a very good meal. And there is definitely no shortage of good things to eat.
Tuesday night was a combination of meeting up with a lot of friends in one location with the best of several restaurants bringing their best dishes to you. All through the evening, diners would stroll from one table to the next visiting, sometimes sitting down to eat the next course of their meal, and finally having time to get caught up with each other’s lives.
In the background was an extremely talented show band named The Nouveau String Band with Marce Lacouture. A combination of fiddles, guitars, a mandolin, piano and snare drum, the band added just the right ambiance to all the laughing, joking, talking...and eating.
Entertainment for the evening was State Representative Jonathan Perry. He didn’t come to report on the state legislature’s plans and activities, but rather to poke fun at some of the lives we lead and take a moment to look at the lighter side of life. Mostly, he spoke about his family: his children, his wife and the relationship he first developed with his in-laws. All in good humor, of course.
As he told his story about where he has come from in life, Perry probably didn’t realize how much he opened up to his constituents about how he got to where he is now. His work career involved duties as a police officer, an attorney, a comedian, and now as a state representative.
The best part of his performance was his ability to look on the lighter side of all of those jobs, and remind the audience how important his family is to him.
Walking home from dinner was probably the best mode of transportation after eating. Meals for the evening came from Chef Bobby & Dot Catering, Dupuy’s Oyster Bar, The River Front, Shucks!, Golden Corral, Azul Tequila Mexican Restaurant, Quiznos, Rachel’s Sweet Shop and LaReve Catering. Marcello’s offered wine tasting and Mello Joy provided coffee as well.
Magdalen Place was a great host for the evening providing staff that took care of the tables just as if you were eating in each of the restaurants.
This is one event that everyone in the parish can be proud of -- it’s all about the food! The evening simply provided the occasion to enjoy a taste of the best available and enjoy it with friends and family from throughout the parish.
