A 49-year-old Delcambre police officer has been indicted on charges of sexual battery and malfeasance in office.

According to a Louisiana State Police news release, a grand jury indicted Ernest Billiot on Monday following an investigation by State Police’s Criminal Investigation Division.

State Police began investigating Billiot in February following allegations of criminal behavior filed by a female motorist who was stopped by Billiot during the early morning hours of Feb. 17.

Trooper David Anderson, a spokesman for State Police, said he could not give any additional information regarding the incident.

Billiot was arrested without incident at the Delcambre Police Department on the Monday afternoon following the indictment.

He was booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center with a bond set at $35,000.
