HENDERSON – It’s now safer for fishermen and hunters in the Atchafalaya Basin.
The St. Martin Sheriff’s Office has placed 15 signs around the Basin so people will know their location if they need to call for help. They also cleared five landing zones in the event a medivac helicopter is needed to transport someone from the Basin.
Deputy Camille Blanchard and his crew of trusties placed signs to identify the areas. The GPS coordinates of each sign is on record in the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Blanchard patrols the Basin area checking on camps and distributing forms to each camp so owners can list their names and contact numbers.
With the help of the Sheriff’s Office it’s now safer to enjoy the natural wonders of the Atchafalaya Basin.
