Generator thieves arrested

CROWLEY – Crowley Police have arrested a Ville Platte man and a Lafayette juvenile for the recent theft of a generator and possession of a stolen vehicle. Officers received a complaint of a felony theft in progress in the northeast portion of Crowley. During the complaint, officers received a description of the suspect vehicle, which had just transported a stolen generator from a residence.

Officers located the vehicle as it was fleeing the scene. A vehicle pursuit ensued were the suspect began fleeing eastbound on Interstate 10. After the suspects made several reckless moves, they eventually lost control of the vehicle. After the vehicle came to a stop, the pair fled on foot near exit 87 in Rayne.

Within several minutes, officers were able to take the suspects into custody. Arrested were Caldwin Fontenot, 47, of Ville Platte and a 16 year-old juvenile from Lafayette. The pair have been charged with felony theft (generator) and possession of stolen property, as the vehicle they were driving was reported stolen in Lafayette.

Assisting in the arrest were Rayne Police Department and the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
