St. Martinville – Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Michael Mitchell, 49, who died on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at his residence in St. Martinville.

Interment was at Queen of Peace Cemetery.

Mr. Mitchell was a certified welder and scrub board player in the Zydeco band Jody and the Zydeco Hot Poppas.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Francis Mitchell; two daughters, Kayla Mitchell and Dana Mitchell of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Harold Mitchell Jr. (Icy) and Lionel Mitchell (Valerie) of Houston, and Lester J. Mitchell (Unrika) of Lafayette; four sisters, Mary Wiltz (Wallace) of Parks, Ella Ledet (Antoine) and Barbara Wiltz (Gabriel) of Houston, and Stella Hicks of Detroit, Mich.; and two grandsons, Christian Pickney and Davien Willis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Mitchell Sr.; his mother, Enola Mitchell; a sister, Theresa Mitchell; and a brother, Anthony Mitchell.

Active pallbearers were Troy Wiltz, Tyrone Wiltz, Theron Mitchell, Shawn Ledet, Andrew Phillips and Jody Derouen.

Honorary pallbearers were Harold Mitchell, Lester Mitchell, Lionel Mitchell, Wallace Wiltz, Clifford Wiltz, Antoine Ledet, Gabriel Wiltz Sr., Gabriel Wiltz Jr., Lydell Demochet, Lionel Demochet, Chris Mitchell and Steve Pratt.

Golden Meadows Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
