According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, emergency dispatchers received a call Monday night from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office from a woman who was being chased by her ex-husband.
A short time later the suspect, later identified as Justin Cole Thibodeaux, 30, of Chaumont Lane, ran his ex-wife’s vehicle off the road and flipped his vehicle, landing on top of hers.
The victim, age 29 and her 12-year-old son locked themselves in the vehicle for safety, officials said.
The suspect then kicked in the windshield and pulled his ex-wife out of the vehicle and into a wooded area, they said.
The boy ran down the road to get assistance for his mother. A little while later, family members arrived on the scene along with a passing motorist, whose vehicle was stolen by Thibodeaux.
Thibodeaux returned shortly and was taken into custody by deputies.
The mother and son were treated at an Opelousas hospital and released.
Thibodeaux was treated at a Church Point hospital.
He also charged with resisting, reckless operation, violation of a protective order, simple battery of a juvenile, simple battery and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
