It has been several years now the Mamou Grand Sports Association has been spitting out talented teams. It started out as just baseball with one field and has now developed into softball and baseball on several fields.
After several years of success on the softball diamond, the MGSA is looking forward to an upcoming upgrade.
The new forthcoming facilities was made possible, in part, by the actions of the Mamou health Resources. The group helped to prompt the Town of Mamou secure a matching funds grant. The new facilities will help the MGSA be able to host more tournaments. For example, they hosted the Pony eight-and-under Sectional Tournament.
Since its conception the MGSA has achieved great success. They have 14 combined first and second place finishes in regional play and a national championship. The 2007 10-under All-Stars won the Pony National Title.
It has become an expectation for the teams to earn births to the national event. The teams, coaches and parents expect to be playing in the finals of every tournament.
It was obvious this past season as the Pony Regional Tournament in Crowley. All three age groups (8U, 10U, 14U) were competing in the finals. It was a proud moment for all who represented the MGSA. It also made history as it was the first time in Louisiana an organization had that many teams in the finals at one time.
The MGSA is proud of the many skills the girls are learning on the field, but are mostly proud of the skills they are learning that will help them in life. Hopefully, those skills will help the girls in life long after their playing days are over and encourage them to bring their kids back to the same ball park.
The board members of the MGSA are so very proud of thier teams, coaches and parents. And really are gratefull to the town of Mamou and everyone who helps and donates to the success of the organization.
