Chamber welcomes new officers

The Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce chose four new board members and a new president during its meeting Monday, July 14.<!--break-->

Executive Director Camille Fontenot told chamber members there were four available slots on the chamber board. The four nominees were Mark Layne, Dr. Kirk Soileau, Angie Rozas and Larry Lachney. Fontenot asked chamber members to approve all four of them as new board members.

The chamber also selected a new president, as current president Nick LeBas’ term expired. LeBas was presented with a plaque in honor of his service as president. Chamber members selected Terryl Fontenot as their new president.

The chamber also heard from Representative Bernard LeBas, who gave a brief recap of the recent session. LeBas said he and Senator Eric LaFleur had earmarked $950,000 for the construction of a recreational facility in Ville Platte, but Governor Bobby Jindal vetoed the measure. However, LeBas said he and LaFleur will continue in their efforts to obtain these funds.

In other business, the chamber scheduled its next meeting for August 25, at 6 p.m. at the Northside Civic Center.
