GREGORY MICHAEL SAVOY JR.

January 28, 1961 - June 22, 2008


Funeral services were held for Gregory Michael Savoy Jr., 47, of Oakdale, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 25. A private burial followed.

Mr. Savoy died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at his residence with his family near his side.

Survivors include his loving wife of one year, Christel Savoy of Oakdale; one son, Gregory Michael Savoy III of Modesto, California; one daughter, Allison K. Savoy of Modesto, California; his father, Dr. Gregory Michael Savoy Sr. of Mamou; his mother, Shirley Hawkins Savoy of Oakdale; his step-mother, Vickie Savoy of Mamou; two brothers, Dr. Patrick S. Savoy of Oakdale and Christopher P. Savoy of Mamou; two sisters, Angela Savoy Zelada of Woodland Hills, California, and Robin Savoy Bellard of Eunice; his maternal grandmother, Edaise Guidry Hawkins of Lawtell; two uncles, Dr. Frank Savoy Jr. of Eunice and Harry Hawkins Jr. of Opelousas; one aunt, Brenda Fletcher of Houston, Texas; seven nephews; two nieces and one great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dr. Frank Savoy Sr. and Edna Robin Savoy; his maternal grandfather, Harry Hawkins Sr.; and one aunt, Joycelyn Savoy Prescott.

Father Bob Courville officiated.

MARJORIE DESHOTEL GUILLORY

July 21, 1925 - June 23, 2008


PINE PRAIRIE - Funeral services were held for Marjorie Deshotel Guillory, 82, of Pine Prairie, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Pine Prairie at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 25. Burial followed in the Fontenot Cemetery.

Ms. Guillory died Monday, June 23, 2008, at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou following a short illness. She was affectionately called “Cha-chi” by those who were closest to her. She possessed a love for reading, crochet, travel and her family. Just last week, she returned from what she defined “as the trip of a lifetime,” to Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, the Badlands of South Dakota and the mountains of Montana. She loved nothing better than a ladies’ trip to one of the local casinos with her best friends’ lovingly called “The Golden Girls.” She loved to boast about being a great-great-great aunt.

Survivors include one son, Dean Dexter Van Why of Las Vegas Nevada; two brothers, Isom Deshotel of Opelousas and Henry Deshotel Jr. of Summerville, North Carolina; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Guillory; and two sons, Ronald Van Why and Robert Van Why.

Pall bearers were Blain Quam, Brock Lafleur, Chuck Deshotel, Jeremy Deville, Creed Walters and Jacob Deshotel.

Father Gene Tremie officiated.

BERTNEY GEORGE BOUTTE

February 22, 1943 - June 21, 2008


Funeral services will be held for Bertney George Boutte, 65, of Ville Platte, at the Owens-Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 28. Burial will follow in the St. Matthew Cemetery.

Mr. Boutte died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at his residence.

Survivors include three daughters, Eva Poullard Belton, Latisha Sam and Brenda Doucet, all of Ville Platte; two sisters, Agnes Alfred of Ville Platte and Jane Tearesa Belton of Basile; one brother, Rogers Burley of Ville Platte; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Rev. Wilbur Doucet will officiate.

Owens-Thomas Funeral Home of Ville Platte will be in charge of arrangements.

PAUL N. GUILLAUMIN

OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held for Paul N. Guillaumin, 77, of Opelousas, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas at 11 a.m., today, June 26. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

A native of Ville Platte, Mr. Guillaumin died Wednesday, June 24, 2008, at Doctor’s Hospital in Opelousas. He worked for the Department of Education as a state auditor for over 30 years. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army from August 17, 1951, to May 26, 1953. He was also a member of VFW Post #2483.

Survivors include three sons, Scott P. Guillaumin, Ted A. Guillaumin and Shane S. Guillaumin, all of Opelousas; two daughters, Fran M. Guillaumin of Youngsville and Helen K. Guillaumin of Opelousas; one sister, Nora Deville of Ville Platte; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rema and Gertrude Guillaumin.

Rev. Angelo Cremaldi will officiate.
