A national campaign is underway to make sure motorists are following state laws, like wearing seat belts, buckling up children, possessing automobile insurance, etc. The Ville Platte Police Department received monies for the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign for two weeks in May. On Saturday, May 31, officers were out checking motorists at several intersections in the city. Venita “Neicy” Doucet, project coordinator for the department, said officers wrote over 150 tickets for various violations. She said the department also has monies for two more weeks for occupant protection. She said officers will be targeting drivers and passengers who do not follow state laws as far as seat belts and child protection seats. The department will be conducting a DWI campaign in July in conjunction with Louisiana State Police and a child safety seat inspection later this summer as they try to remind drivers to observe all traffic laws.
