sets annual festival

CFMA Acadiana Charter Chapter will have its annual Cajun Music Festival on Saturday at the Northwest Community Center Pavilion.

Paul Daigle & Cajun Gold will play from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and Don Fontenot et les Amis de la Louisiane will play from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Admission is $6 per person, under 12 free.

St. Luke Baptist sets

anniversary services

St. Luke Baptist Church of Vidrine will celebrate 41st anniversary services for the Rev. and Sister Edges Williams on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Guest speakers will be Dr. A.B. Latigue of Unity Baptist Church, Lake Charles, on Friday, and the Rev. Jermaine Tezeno of Israelite Baptist Church, Oakdale, on Sunday.

Learn about edible

plants from expert

If you are interested in learning about what wild plants are good to eat, the Louisiana State Arboretum is the place to be on Saturday, from 10 to 11 a.m.

The program will introduce participants to the bounty of native edible plants that can be found in our area. A short walk to search for plants will follow the program.

Two bands on tap

at Liberty on Sat.

Choupique and Acadien are the bands performing at the Rendez-vous Cajuns Cajun Music Radio & TV show at the Liberty Theatre at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is $5 and ticket window and theater opens at 4 p.m.

New Zion provides

enrichment month

New Zion Baptist Church, 241 South Nimitz, is culminating its 19th year with a Summer Enrichment Program for young people during June.

Emphasis, according to Clifton Lemelle, Sr., co-ordinator, will be on math and reading, along with organized recreation, field trips, conflict resolution and community speakers.

Breakfast and lunch will be served. Hours of the program will be 8 a.m.-2 p.m. weekdays. Parents must supply transportation.

Registration for the 30 program spots will be Monday and Tuesday in the church cafeteria from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. All students will need a copy of their report card and their LEAP or iLEAP test scores.

St. Thomas More

sets VBS signup

St. Thomas More Vacation Bible School will have its Bible School June 2-6 from 9 a.m. to noon at STM Social Hall.

The cost is set for $10 per child for grades K-6.

Space is limited to 200, register at St. Thomas More Religion Education Building

This years’ program is “Son Creek Junction.”

Music, dance

lessons to be given

The Cajun French Music Association will provide free youth and adult lessons on accordion, fiddle, guitar and dance every Tuesday and Thursday from June 3 through June 19.

The lessons will be given at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 West Park Ave from 7-8 p.m.

Registration will be at 6:30 p.m. on June 3.

Performing Arts

Series debuts June 6

The Eunice Public Library’s summer Performing Arts Series at the Free Performances for all ages will debut at the Liberty Theatre on Friday, June 6, with Rick Kelley, children’s performer and singer.

The series is free and is for all ages. Each performance begins at 10 a.m.

26th Buggy Festival

opens on June 6

The 26th annual Buggy Festival will be held at Church Point City Park on June 6-8.

Buggies, the main means of transportation in the region’s early years, will be on display and will be the focus of the grand parade at 1 p.m. June 8.

Admission is $5, with children 12 and under admitted free.

Truck driving

competition set

The La. Motor Transport Association will hold its 2008 truck driving championship in Baton Rouge on June 6-7.

Registration and testing will be Friday, June 6, at the Cook Conference Center and competition will be the next day.

Three places will be decided in eight classes of competition.

N.A.U.W. sponsors pageant on June 7

The Eunice Branch of N.A.U.W. will hold its Bi-annual Pageant on June 7, at the Southeast Community Center. Children between the ages of 3 and 12 are invited to participate.

Registration is under way for Happy Days at Son World Adventure Park, a Vacation Bible School program, to be held at St. Anthony’s Parish Hall.

The program for children Pre-K through 5th grade, will be from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. June 9-13.

Registration is being held in the St. Anthony’s CCD Office and the Rectory. Teens are needed as counselors.

Grants for facade improvements to buildings in downtown Eunice are available through the Louisiana Main Street Program.

The Louisiana Cajun Culture & Music Club will host its 23rd annual celebration on Saturday, June 14, at Northwest Community Center.

Jackie Callier, Ivy Dugas & Cajun Cousins will provide music from 8 p.m. until midnight.

Admission is $5, with handicapped persons and those under 12 admitted free.

Acadia Parish Food For Seniors in the Eunice area will be distributed on Monday, June 23 at 8:30 a.m. in the St. Thomas More parking lot.

Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve’s Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is accepting reservations for Summer Culture Fun Days.

The traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall Exhibit will be in DeRidder on July 2-6.

It will be at the fairgrounds on U.S. Hwy. 171.

Chamber accepting

pageant applicants

The Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Miss Eunice/Teen Miss Eunice Pageant on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Eunice High Auditorium.

Applications are available at the Chamber office, 200 South C.C. Duson between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. weekdays. Entry deadline is June 2.

All applicants must reside in, be enrolled in, and attending classes on a full-time basis at an accredited public, private or home-schooling program and maintain a 2.5 GPA or better.

Age brackets are 14-16 and 17-21.

Fund created

for liver recipient

A fund has been created for Renee Diaville of Eunice who has received a liver transplant. Money is being raised for medical expenses not covered by insurance and cost of living expenses as she remains in New Orleans for post-op treatment.
