MAMOU - A case of domestic abuse led the Mamou Police Department into an investigation that uncovered the alleged sexual abuse of a child.
Detective Todd Ortis said Steven Bordelon, 26, 316 South St., Mamou, was charged with domestic battery and criminal damage to property after officers responded to a domestic disturbance.
According to Ortis, Bordelon was allegedly arguing with his wife when his wife’s nine-year-old daughter attempted to call the police. Bordelon then allegedly stuck the child. When officers arrived, several items inside the home were broken. Bordelon was charged with domestic battery and criminal damage to property.
After the arrest, Ortis said Bordelon’s wife’s four-year-old daughter told her Bordelon had sexual contact with her. The child will be sent to Stuller Place in Opelousas, a place that specializes in questioning children about sexual and physical abuse. Ortis stated Mamou Police interviewed Bordelon, in depth, and confirmed he did have sexual contact with his four-year-old step-daughter. Ortis added Bordelon also allegedly intentionally exposed himself to the child.
With the new information, Bordelon was additionally charged with sexual battery with a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile.
Bordelon was expected to be transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail Wednesday, May 21.
