Three St. Landry Parish volunteer firefighters charged in fires

BATON ROUGE – State Fire Marshal Butch Browning announced today that investigators of the Fire Marshal’s Arson Investigation Division have charged three St. Landry Fire District #6 volunteer firefighters with intentionally setting fires in the Eunice area.

Harral Johnson, 18, and Stevin Lafleur, 19, both of Eunice, were charged with setting fires on Sittig Rd. in Acadia Parish on 12/19/07, and with a recent fire in Eunice on E. Dude Rd. that totally destroyed a barn on 4/6/08. Dexter Reed, 18, of Basile, was charged along with Johnson and Lafleur in these two fires, and was additionally charged with setting a fire on 1/21/08 in the area of Hwy. 190 and LA 367, Eunice.

The Fire Marshal was assisted in the investigation by officials of St. Landry Fire District 6, where the three arrested subjects had been volunteer firefighters since late 2007. All three are being held awaiting bond at the St. Landry Parish Jail.
