Breaux Bridge High School’s Lady Tigers clinched the runner-up spot in the District 5-4A softball race with a convincing 17-1 win over Northside last Monday. Coach Louis Blanchard’s squad (14-12-1, 9-3) added a non-district win to its final record by topping Cecilia 6-2 on Thursday to wrap up regular season play.

The Lady Tigers were scheduled to travel to Eunice yesterday (Tuesday) for the first round of the state playoffs. If they beat Eunice they will advance to the regional playoffs against the winner of the Live Oak-Belaire game, likely on Friday.

“We’re happy to be back in the playoffs,” commented Blanchard Monday. “We have only three seniors on the squad and our starting lineup included four, and sometimes five, freshmen during the season. So we’re very pleased with our record for the year.”

St. Martinville’s Lady Tigers (10-13) also made the Class 4A playoffs, landing a wild card spot on the road against Alexandria, a game also scheduled for yesterday. Should they win they would next meet the winner of the Tioga-Tara game.

The Lady Bulldogs of Cecilia, who finished up at 11-19-2, 4-4, failed to land a playoff berth in the Class 3A seedings.
