Breaux Bridge — Police here are still looking for a handgun of unknown make and caliber believed to have been used in the shooting death last week of 35 year old Clarence Hypolite Jr. in broad daylight on the city’s west side. Derafecus Williams, 25, was arrested on suspicion of second degree murder. He was released on $250,000 bond.

“When officers arrived, the victim was being transported in his personal vehicle to the hospital,” said Assistant Chief Rollie Cantu.

Williams, who was suffering with a wound to the abdomen, subsequently died in a Lafayette hospital, Cantu said.

The shooting happened a little after 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, at the intersection of Landry and Wade.

Witnesses said an argument broke out between Williams and Hypolite.

The weapon used in the shooting has not been recovered and police are asking anyone with information on its whereabouts to call detectives at 332-8389.
