BB’s Vidrine a big winner at 24th Le Cajun Awards

Cade – Breaux Bridge resident Randy Vidrine left the 24th Annual Le Cajun Awards ceremony Friday night with two of the evening’s top honors.

Vidrine’s song, the Frison Two-Step, won Song of the Year, and his band, the Lafayette Rhythm Devils, was named Band of the Year.

The one who walked away with the most honors, however, was Johnnie Allen. Allen received honors as 2012 Male Vocalist of the Year, Best CD of the Year for “Shine On,” and People’s Choice.

Other honors included:

•Caitlin Ziller, Ms. LeCajun 2012-13.

•Keith Boudreaux, of New Orleans, President’s Award.

•Jackie Caillier and Ellis Vanicor, Hall of Fame.

•Daniel “Danny” Cormier, Excellence Award.

•Belinda McGuigan, Continuing Contribution Award.

•Karl Fontenot, Appreciation Award.

•Leland and Sue Guidry, Heritage Award.

•Bobby A. Caswell, Pioneer Award.

•Joel Savoy, Fiddler of the Year.

•Chris Miller, Accordionist of the Year.

•Port Arthur Playboys by Jed Bellot, Best First CD.

•Jeanette Aguillard, Female Vocalist of the Year.

New Dawn award winners were:

•Madeline Muzie Brown, Baton Rouge Chapter.

•Jacob LeBlanc, Chapitre de Lafayette.

•Donovan Bourque, Golden Triangle Chapter.

•Brooke Burke, Gulf Coast Cajuns Chapter.

•Ariel Doane, Lake Charles Chapter.

The winners of the French Speaking Contest were also announced:

•1st grade: 1. Amelia Long, 2. Abigail Babineaux, 3. Kaegan Elliot.

•2nd grade: 1. Simeon Patrick D’Avy, 2. Laney Gleason-Pritts, 3. Jurney Miller.

•3rd grade: 1. Gwyneth Rees, 2. Samantha Pride, 3. Valerie Long.

•5th and 6th grade: 1. Jackie Carter, 2. Brielle Verret, 3. Seth Lafontant.

•8th grade: Lindsay McAnally.

The Prix d’Hors de Nous, the out of state Cajun music award, results included:

•1st, Kevin Anthony and the Twin Cities Playboys, with “Old Time Cajun Music.”

•2nd, The Cajun Roosters, with “Okra and a Pepper.”

•3rd, The Cajun Vegabonds, with “Vegabond Special.”

The music festival, held Saturday, included acts from Paul Daigle and Cajun Gold, Le Jeune Generations des Cajuns, Walter Mouton, and Ellis Vanicor.

The 25th Annual Le Cajun set for August 2013 will be held in Rayne at the Rayne Civic Center.
