ABBEVILLE – Long-time Vermilion Parish School Board member Bill Searle has resigned.

Searle, 83, told board members and administrators that his resignation is immediate.

He has 2 1/2 years remaining in his term.

Searle said his 17 1/2 years on the board was an unforgettable experience, both professionally and personally.

“My wife and I have discussed the matter and both feel it’s just time to go, and I feel right now is a good time. There’s no special reason, but, with all the recent changes in the education system, the school board’s work in the future will be limited, and I feel I am leaving at a good point”.

Searle’s recommendation for his replacement is G.L. “Skip” Gardiner, a retired teacher and administrator from Gueydan.
