Mr. LeBlanc, a native of Cecilia, received his degree in education from S.L.I. (now U.L. of Lafayette) in 1942. He taught briefly before enlisting with the Army in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II, having honorably served his country in the United States Army while being stationed in the Philippines.
Upon his discharge from the Army, he earned his Master’s Degree at L.S.U. and taught at Cecilia High School before becoming its principal in 1949, and retired from that position in June of 1977 – serving 35 years in education.
After his retirement from the school system, he was appointed as the Veterans’ Service Officer for the Veterans’ Administration in St. Martin Parish – an office which he held for several years before retiring.
He was a sports enthusiast who loved watching and keeping up with local and national sporting events. He was the No. 1 Fan of the Cecilia Bulldogs.
Mr. LeBlanc was well respected by his peers, his students, and the numerous veterans he serviced throughout his career in education and government, and always felt it a privilege to assist those in need in his community of Cecilia and St. Martin Parish. His presence will be sorrowfully missed by his family, friends, and the many lives he’s touched all through his life.
He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Cecile Champagne LeBlanc Cecilia; three daughters, Sherry A. LeBlanc of Lafayette, Gayle Hanks and her husband Ronald, of Houston, Texas, and Susan Randazzo and her husband Karl of Saint Martinville; his sister, Rose L. Guidry and her husband Dr. Kirby J. Guidry of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Nicole Gautreaux, Jennifer LaGrange, Stephanie Broussard, Opal Reon, Frannie Durand, Jake Randazzo and Jonathan Hanks; and six great-grandchildren.
