Baton Rouge – Even without scoring any points in the high jump, the Breaux Bridge Tigers cruised to the state Class 4A track and field championship here last Saturday, piling up 62 points to claim their second consecutive state title.

Travin Dural, the defending state high jump champ, did not get to compete in the event as he was disqualified for showing up too late to check in. His season best effort of 6-10 set a new record at the parish meet last month and he almost certainly would have scored points at state.

But Dural still came away with gold medals, winning the 200-meter dash in 21.16 and ran a leg on the Tigers’ first place 4X200 relay quartet. He also earned third place honor sin the long jump.

Senior speedster Kavahra Holmes set a new state Class 4A record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.18, the second-fasted outdoor time in the nation. He also anchored the 4X200 and 4X400 relay teams that claimed the gold and finished third in the 200-meter dash.

Darrian Thomas was BB’s other individual blue ribbon performer, taking first in the triple jump with a 46-9¼ effort.

Cecilia’s best showings at the meet came from Kyler Perrault who finished second in the 800-meter run and Jeremy Doucette who finished fifth in the shot put.

Cecilia did have a state champ, however, with Lady Bulldog Monique Blanchard captured gold in the shot put with a heave of 37-6.

Also scoring points for the Lady ’Dogs were Carlie Calais, third in the 800; Mariah Dartez, fourth in the discus; and Dani Whitaker, fifth in the pole vault.
