Breaux Bridge – A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2012, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for W.M. “Coochie” Briggs, 62, who passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at the LSU Shreveport Hospital, in Shreveport, La.

Coochie was married to James “Jim” Briggs for 23 years. Her love for her daughter Charlsey and son Corey was unconditional. Her children and granddaughter, Aubrey, were the loves of her life. She devoted her time and energy in helping care for her family.

Throughout her life, Coochie was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church and served as a Captain for the St. Bernard Chapel of Perpetual Adoration. She loved giving her time to the Chapel and all the faithful adorers and frequently replaced adorers as needed.

Coochie was a retired beautician, having spent 25 years in the business. Coochie also worked several years as an aide at St. Bernard Catholic School.

Survivors include her husband, James “Jim” Briggs; a daughter, Charlsey Briggs and fiancé Jason Poirier; a son, Cory Briggs; and granddaughter, Aubrey Briggs, all of Breaux Bridge; her brother, Douglas Romero and his wife Claire of Breaux Bridge; two sisters, Lisa Romero and Annette Romero and her companion Toni Stovall, all of Breaux Bridge; nieces, Tiffany R. Gautreaux, Blake Valdetero of Lafayette and Ally Thompson of Jenks, Oklahoma; nephews, Ryan Romero, Robbie Romero, W.C. Romero, Colby Romero, Brody Romero and Trace Sutton; and great-nephews, Taylor Boudreaux and Silas Romero; her sisters-in-law, P.J. Sutton and Judy Romero; her brother-in-law, Dennis Briggs and wife Balinda of Jenks, Oklahoma; and her mother-in-law, RayDean Briggs of Jenks, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Romero Jr. and Aline Dore Romero; and brothers, Paul “Tickey” Romero and William “Billy” Romero.
