The Bridge was dominant in the running events and got two record-setting efforts from Travin Dural to take the coveted team championship in the triangular meet. Tiger runners claimed 13 of the 24 places in the individual track events, including five in which BB athletes finished 1-2. The Tigers also won two of the three relays.
Dural set new parish records in the 200-meter dash and the high jump while also capturing the gold in the 100-meter dash. His time of 21.43 in the 200 nipped the old record of 21.6 set by St. Martinville’s Bryant Perrodin in 2002. Dural cleared 6-10 in the high jump to eclipse the old record of 6-8 held by Wilbert Alexander of Breaux Bridge since 1992.
Cecilia’s Kyler Perrault led the Bulldog effort by winning both the 800 and 1600 meter runs.
St. Martinville finished a distant third in the team standings with 23 points, failing to claim even one first place.
GIRLS
Cecilia’s Lady Bulldogs scored more points in the girls division than Breaux Bridge and St. Martinville combined, finishing with 95. The Bridge trailed with 40 while SM managed only 35.
Pacing Cecilia’s team victory were double winners Carlie Calais (1600 and 3200), Kelsea Noel (100 and 300 hurdles) and Dani Whitaker (high jump and pole vault).
