Former parish councilman

PORT ALLEN – Services for former parish councilman and levee board member Huey Brown will be Tuesday. He died at age 72.

Retired from the LSU Alumni Association, he was 12-year member of the parish council and a member of the Atchafalaya Basin Levee Board and the West Baton Rouge Parish Library Board.

Survivors include his wife Andrea and three daughters.

Arrangements are by Wilbert.

Bank director

INDEPENDENCE – Services for long-tme bank director, iron worker and businessman Wilbert Hutchison will be Wednesday. He died April 7 at age 85.

He was a director of Florida Parishes Bank for 35 years and former treasurer of Gas Utility District of Livinsgton Parish. He was a cattle rancher, grocery store owner and member of Ironwork Local 623.

Survivors include is wife Janelle, two sons and a daughter.

Arrangements are by Harry McKneely.

Former Poet Laureate

JENA – Services for former Louisiana Poet Laureate Sylvia Buckley are Monday. She died April 5 at age 80.

She was Poet Laureate from 1992-1996 and was an avid writer of poetry.

Survivors include her husband, Loyd, a son and a daughter.

Arrangements were by Kinner & Stevens.

Baseball/softball umpire

ALEXANDRIA – Services for long-time high school baseball and softball official Rodney Verzwyvelt will be Tuesday.

Retired from the Natural Resource Conservation Service, he was an umpire for 34 years.

Survivors include his wife Lynda, two sons and two daughters

Arrangements are by John Kramer & Son.

Movie producer

SHREVEPORT – Services will be Wednesday for movie producer Jim McCullough, Sr. will be Wednesday. He died at age 83.

He was a successful actor before turning to production. His best-known feature film was “Where the Red Fern Grows.” He was a member of the Red River Walk of Stars.

Arrangements are by Rose-Neath.

Bank director

MARKSVILLE – Services for long-time bank director Charles Masters, Jr. are pending. He died April 8 at age 80.

He was active in Union Bank for about 30 years and was former owner-operator of Ideal Chevrolet near the courthouse square.

Survivors include his wife Gwendolyn, a son and four daughters.
